Verbal signaling during serves
What is new is that players can now also say "not ready" out loud if they cannot receive the serve (Rule 4.C.2). This rule supplements the previously usual hand signal and improves communication on the court. -
Free ball release during serve
Until now, it was mandatory to release the ball with the free hand. From 2025, it will be permitted to hit the ball directly from the pickleball paddle - but without generating spin (Rule 4.A.5). This allows more flexibility when serving. -
Rally scoring in doubles
The new provisional rules 4.G.1 and 12.B.1 introduce rally scoring in doubles. This means that points are awarded on every rally - even if the serve is not in play. However, traditional scoring will still apply in most competitions.
